Edited by Prof. Cludio Boninsegna.
Music of Chopin and Liszt, Federica Marini pianist.
<< Music is one of the most widespread of human cultural activities, existing in some form in all cultures throughout the world.
With the advent of modern cognitive neuroscience and new tools for studying the human brain "live" music quickly became a fascinating topic of study.
The research on the neurobiological basis of music has highlighted its role in influencing and shaping the brain’s structure and function.
Music engages many brain functions: emotion, memory, learning and plasticity, motor control, pattern perception, imagery and more.
I will try to explain brain structures involved in music perception, performance and cognition and I will try to discuss how music can help to unravel the functioning of brain processes and how studying the brain can open new perspectives to think about music.>>
