Federico  Gianello
"...a virtuoso pianist with extraordinary musicality!" - Lazar Berman

Because of his expressive qualities, Federico Gianello is considered to be a refined concert pianist. He studied under Laura Palmieri, Lazar Berman, Alexander Lonquich and Gerlinde Otto, collaborated with artists such as Bruno Canino, Aldo Ciccolini, Leslie Howard, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Louis Lortie, Lev Naumov, Maurizio Pollini, Franco Scala and Lilya Zilberstein.

Throughout years, he has won prizes on numerous international competitions; he is a winner of the Primer Grand Prix on the International Piano Competition “Compositores de España” in Madrid (Spain), has been awarded with first prizes at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach (Austria), International Piano Competition “Premi Principat d'Andorra”, Città di Pinerolo (Italy), Città di Marsala (Italy), “Premio Rendano” in Rome (Italy), second prizes at International EPTA Piano Competition “Svetislav Stančić” in Zagreb (Croatia) and International Piano Competition “Edward Grieg” in Oslo (Norway), and a third prize at the International Music Competition “G. B. Viotti” in Vercelli (Italy) during the edition dedicated to W. A. Mozart.

He debuted in prestigious concert halls around the world, including the Auditorium “Prince Rainier III” in Monte Carlo (Monaco), Weimarhalle (Germany), Lindeman Hall in Oslo (Norway), Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb (Croatia), Auditório do Masp in São Paulo (Brasil), Teatro Rivoli in Porto (Portugal), National Auditorium of Andorra, Auditorium “de la Villa” in Madrid (Spain), Auditorium “Pablo Casals” in Tarragona (Spain), Teatro Comunale in Bologna (Italy), Teatro Argentina in Rome (Italy), Teatro Filarmonico in Verona (Italy), Sala “Puccini” in Milan (Italy) and “Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista” in Venice (Italy).

He participated in various musical festivals around the globe: Dubrovnik and Zagreb (Croatia), Pörtschach (Austria), Teplice and Prague (Czech Republic), Vancouver (Canada), Riva del Garda, Asolo, Sermoneta, Cervo and Verona (Italy).

He cooperated with RTVE Symphony Orchestra of Madrid, Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, Greiz Simphoniker, West Czech Symphony Orchestra, JSO Weimar, Orchestra of the Arena of Verona, Chamber Orchestra of Padova and Veneto, GOG Orchestra of Genova, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Symphony of Timisoara, Bacau Symphony, Balkan Symphonjeta Chamber Orchestra and conductors such as Peter Maag, Victor Despal, Piero Bellugi, Jean F. Antonioli, Rico Saccani, Ovidiu Balan, Alan Bjelinski, Berislav Šipuš, Pietro Borgonovo, Stefano Furini, Nicolas Pasquet.

Known for his passion for antique instruments, he researched them with Andreas Staier and Sergio Vartolo. He performed in Weimar and Leipzig (Germany) while playing on historical pianos which belonged to Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner.

Musical curiosity and open-mindedness towards experimentation of new forms of entertainment brought him into collaboration with RAI UNO show “Anteprima Opera” from the “Arena di Verona”, playing along with songwriters Riccardo Cocciante, Lucio Dalla, Gianni Morandi, Francesco Renga and the singer Katherine Jenkins.

He has recorded both audio and video for RAI Italian Television, Bayerische Rundfunk in Germany, ORF in Austria, RTVE and Radio Classica in Spain, HRT in Croatia and Radio France.

With residences in Verona and Weimar, he teaches at The School of Music “Franz Liszt” (Germany). He is a founder and a chairman of the Steinway Society in Verona, a first European association of the prestigious American-German piano brand, which created the Piano Academy with the course of a valuable and innovative educational project.

The International Rotary Foundation awarded him with the Paul Harris Fellow Prize "for appreciation and recognition of its tangible value and significant contribution in promoting a better mutual understanding and friendly relations among the people of the world".
